Understanding loc care can be confusing. Here are answers to the questions I get asked most often. If your question isn't here, send a message!
Ask a QuestionFor new dreadlocks, I recommend maintenance every 6–8 weeks to keep the roots neat and prevent conjoining. For mature locs, every 3–4 months is usually sufficient, though some prefer root tidy-ups more frequently depending on their growth rate and preferred look.
Not when done correctly! The organic crochet method uses a microscopic hook (usually 0.5mm to 0.75mm) to lock loose hairs together. Because I do not twist the hair too tightly at the scalp or use harsh chemicals/waxes, the integrity of your hair and follicle is protected, encouraging strong, healthy growth.
Absolutely. Clean hair actually locks faster and healthier than oily hair. I recommend washing your dreadlocks once a week or once every two weeks using a residue-free dreadlock shampoo. It is crucial to dry them thoroughly (air dry or blow dry on cool/warm) to prevent mold or odors.
Human hair extensions blend seamlessly, can be dyed, and feel softer, behaving exactly like your own hair. Synthetic extensions are a budget-friendly alternative, come in vibrant colors, and hold their shape well, but cannot be dyed and are slightly stiffer initially.
